The MoU aims to integrate Indian-language AI capabilities across PNB’s digital ecosystem, making banking services more accessible through voice and text.
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to advance multilingual AI-powered banking and improve access to digital financial services.
The partnership will integrate BHASHINI’s language technology capabilities into PNB’s digital banking ecosystem, enabling customers to access banking information and services in their preferred Indian languages through voice and text-based interactions.
Under the MoU, the organisations will explore the use of BHASHINI tools and APIs for language translation, multilingual communication and documentation, domain-specific language models and banking glossaries. The initiative also includes collaboration to improve language resources and encourage wider adoption of multilingual digital services.
The partnership is intended to reduce the language barriers that can limit the use of digital banking, particularly among customers who are more comfortable interacting in regional languages. It aligns with the broader objective of making digital public infrastructure more inclusive and citizen-centric.
Business impact for BFSI: multilingual AI can help banks improve customer engagement, expand the reach of self-service channels and make digital services easier to navigate. For the wider sector, the PNB–BHASHINI initiative offers a reference point for integrating Indian-language capabilities into customer-facing banking journeys. These are partnership objectives and planned areas of collaboration rather than capabilities already live for all customers.
