The initiative tests an AI-agent experience that can complete selected commerce tasks within user-defined limits.
Pine Labs partnered with L&T Finance on an agentic-commerce feature for the PLANET app, with launch coverage describing an initial use case that enables an AI agent to book flights within user-defined spending limits.
The initiative reflects a broader trend in which AI assistants move from recommending products to helping complete transactions. For financial-services applications, that could eventually connect customer intent with relevant services, payment options and fulfilment journeys.
However, agentic commerce requires careful design. Users need to set clear permissions, see the total price and relevant terms, confirm important actions and retain control over changes or cancellations. Providers also need to handle failed transactions, refunds and customer support in a transparent way.
The initial use case should be understood as a specific feature announcement rather than evidence that all shopping or financial transactions can be automated.
BFSI NXT perspective: Agentic commerce may reduce steps between intent and purchase, but trust will depend on permissioning, transparency and reliable execution.
