YES BANK and Open Announce AI-Led i-Mandate for Recurring Payments

The initiative is designed to identify possible recurring-payment failures before the scheduled debit occurs.

YES BANK and fintech platform Open announced i-Mandate, an AI-based system designed to predict potential failures in recurring payments before the debit date. The initiative was highlighted among the product developments at Global Fintech Fest 2026.

Recurring payment failures can disrupt subscriptions, loan repayments, insurance premiums and other scheduled collections. Early identification of a likely failure can give service providers and customers time to resolve issues before the payment is attempted.

The reported proposition includes AI agents using voice and WhatsApp-based interactions in multiple Indian languages. Such channels may help make reminders and resolution journeys more accessible, but customer consent, clear identification of the caller or message sender and protection against social-engineering misuse are essential.

Payment prediction systems should also be assessed for accuracy, false alerts and the risk of contacting customers unnecessarily. Any automated action should respect the applicable mandate, payment-network and data-protection requirements.

BFSI NXT perspective: Predictive payment operations can reduce avoidable failures, but trust depends on transparent, secure and consent-led customer communication.
