NPCI data cited by Financial Express shows 2,547 crore transactions in October, with transaction volume up 23% year-on-year.
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed transactions worth ₹31.53 lakh crore across 2,547 crore payments in October 2026, according to NPCI data cited by The Financial Express.
The monthly average worked out to approximately ₹1,01,707 crore in transaction value per day, while the system processed around 82.2 crore transactions daily. Compared with October last year, transaction volume rose 23% and transaction value increased 16%. October also became the first month in which UPI transaction value crossed ₹30 lakh crore.
The record reflects the scale at which UPI has become embedded in everyday payments, merchant acceptance and person-to-person transfers. It also places greater emphasis on the resilience of the underlying ecosystem, including bank connectivity, payment service providers, reconciliation systems, fraud monitoring and customer support.
As transaction volumes rise, the next phase for the ecosystem will depend not only on adoption but also on reliability, security, sustainable economics and inclusive access. Banks, fintechs and merchants will need to keep investing in infrastructure that can support growth while protecting users and maintaining trust.
