The collaboration brings together contactless payments, international QR acceptance and card acceptance capabilities for smaller merchants.
PhonePe and Visa announced three payment capabilities at Global Fintech Fest 2026: Tap to Pay, Cross Border Scan to Pay and Smart Accept. The suite is designed to extend digital card payments across consumer and merchant use cases.
Tap to Pay supports contactless payments using eligible tokenised Visa cards on supported Android devices. Cross Border Scan to Pay is intended to enable participating users to pay at selected overseas merchants through QR-based journeys. Smart Accept focuses on helping smaller merchants accept card payments.
The launch reflects the convergence of wallets, card networks and QR infrastructure. For consumers, the proposition is convenience across more payment situations. For merchants, simpler acceptance can reduce friction and broaden the ways customers can pay.
Availability may vary by market, device, issuer and merchant. Tokenisation, transaction security and clear user consent remain important as payment experiences become more integrated.
BFSI NXT perspective: The next stage of digital payments is about interoperable acceptance—connecting payment methods, merchants and markets without compromising trust.
