India’s open finance movement has achieved a historic milestone as the Account Aggregator (AA) network officially crossed 100 million user-linked financial accounts. This rapid adoption trajectory underscores a fundamental transformation in how Indian consumers manage, share, and leverage their personal financial data across banking, lending, insurance, and wealth management domains.

While initial AA implementation focused heavily on streamlining digital lending applications, the fastest-growing use cases are now emerging within the wealthtech and personal financial management (PFM) sectors. Investment platforms, robo-advisors, and stockbroking apps are leveraging consent-driven AA architecture to deliver real-time net-worth aggregation, automated portfolio rebalancing, and hyper-personalized tax planning services.

Previously, wealth management platforms relied on cumbersome manual document uploads, email parsing, or un-credentialed screen scraping to aggregate investor holdings across mutual funds, equities, fixed deposits, and insurance policies. Under the AA framework, data flows directly from Financial Information Providers (FIPs)—such as banks, depositories, and pension funds—to Financial Information Users (FIUs) via encrypted, tamper-proof channels, guaranteeing user privacy and data integrity.

Regulatory enhancements expanding the scope of FIPs to include the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), tax portals, and health insurance databases have further enriched the AA ecosystem. Investors can now grant granular, time-bound consent to advisors, allowing holistic financial planning based on verifiable, comprehensive wealth datasets.

As consumer awareness around data sovereignty and privacy rights deepens, the AA framework sets a global benchmark for consent-driven open finance. Wealthtech firms that master AA integration are positioned to capture significant market share by delivering highly customized, low-cost financial advisory services to millions of retail investors stepping into formal capital markets.
